12th APSA International Conference


The Indian Chapter of Asian Professional Security Association (APSA) hosted the 12th APSA International Annual Conference at New Delhi, India, from 10-11 February 2005.

The two-day conference had witnessed the convergence of organizations, professionals & practitioners and experts specializing in security and safety related issues. Here, distinguished speakers from India, Australia, UK, USA and Switzerland shared their experiences with participants on a vast range of topics such as Emergency Response and Business Continuity Planning Detection of Explosives, Crisis Management, Key to handling Man Made Disasters and etc.

The product workshops by Reliance Infocomm, Fast Video Security AG (Switzerland), International SOS, Dolphin Electromagnetic Technology  & Peregrine Security added value by providing practical insights to the intricacies of security technology. Delegates included state police chiefs, Officials from Ministry of Home Affairs, corporate security heads, bank security chiefs, security practitioners from the Asia region, as well as from a dozen other countries, including the United Nations.

The general feedback from the delegates indicated a high level of satisfaction. Kudos to APSA–India Chapter for the grand success of their conference.

11th APSA Conference – Hong Kong


APSA Hong Kong Chapter successfully hosted the 11th APSA International Annual Conference at Harbour Plaza Hotel Hong Kong, from 18-19 November 2004. The conference with its theme “Competing Wise – Steering Fusion of Security Management & Technology” had captivated the attention of delegates from the Asian and South-East Asia regions, as well as from United Kingdom and USA.

A total of 20 delegations from Malaysia, comprising of representatives from the Malaysian Government i.e. Ministry of Internal Security, Chief Government Security Office-Prime Minister’s Department and private organisations attended the said event.

The conference was very well received by delegates as it lined up a very comprehensive programme, which covered major aspects of security and safety, which reflected the current trends influencing the security and safety industry. The 11th APSA Executive Council Meeting was chaired by Dato’ Haji Rahmat Ismail, President of APSA International Headquarters and comprised of representatives from APSA Country-Chapters. APSA was privileged to have representatives from Japan, present as observers.

Indo Security 2003 Expo & Forum

APSA Indonesia Chapter successfully held its first international event - Indo Security 2003 Forum on 25 and 26 March 2003 at the Jakarta Convention Centre, Jakarta. The forum was held in conjunction with Indo Security 2003 Expo, Indonesia’s first ever-major international security tradeshow, which was organised by PT Napindo Media Ashatama, a well-established event organiser with an impressive track record in Indonesia.

The forum with the theme “Aftermath of Bali Bomb Incident For The Security Aspects and Security Industry In Indonesia” which reflected the current trends and concerns of security industry in Asia after the Bali bombing incident had captivated more than one hundred security professionals from Asia Regions.

The event was seen as the professional platform for security practitioners, consultants and corporate executives to gather information, exchange ideas, develop business opportunities and view the latest trends and technology.

Launching of APSA Indonesia Chapter


The declaration ceremony of Protem APSA Indonesia Chapter held on 24 August 2002 at Hotel Menara Peninsular, Jakarta, Indonesia marked a significant episode in the history of APSA. The ceremony signified the official formation of APSA Indonesia Chapter, thus, adding another country chapter to APSA International community.

During the ceremony, Mr Toto Trihamtoro was appointed the Protem President of APSA Indonesia Chapter. A panel discussion was held where Dato’ Haji Rahmat Ismail (President, APSA Malaysia Chapter), Mr Joseph Tang (President, APSA Singapore Chapter), Col Manuel P. Espejo (President, APSA Philippines Chapter) and Dato’ Haji Mohd Som Sulaiman (Deputy President, APSA Malaysia Chapter) shared their APSA experiences. Delegates attending the ceremony were warmly received and well-taken care by the Indonesian host.

The declaration had received very encouraging support from the government as well as security and safety industry in Indonesia. APSA Indonesia Chapter currently has 30 members.

APSA Hong Kong Chapter Dinner & Talk


APSA Hong Kong Chapter held its Dinner & Talk on 27 September 2002 at Royal Garden Hotel, TST East. Special guest speaker, Mr Wilbut Chan of Hong Kong Police gave a talk on the topic "Negotiation at Emergencies, the Dos & the Don'ts".


HACK 2002 Hong Kong

Hack 2002 Hong Kong, the region’s only expo focusing on network security was held at Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 3 to 5 September 2002. This network security conference and expo included a three-day solutions-based conference which featured speakers such as the world renowned hacker, Rain Forest Puppy (RFP) and Gary Bahadhur from Foundstone Inc, along with a two-day series of free exhibition and free seminars.

During the three-day conference, the speakers addressed the many security risks companies face, whilst presented the latest developments and techniques that could bulletproof their enterprises. Seminar On ‘Growth Imperatives For The Security Systems Industry’
APSA India Chapter and ASSOCHAM jointly hosted the Seminar on ‘Growth Imperatives For The Security Systems Industry’ on 24 August 2002 at ASSOCHAM HOUSE at New Delhi.

This first ever issues specific event provided an ideal platform for the participations to discuss issues like the high customs tariffs, application and rationalization of the excise duty, improved trade incentives, spreading awareness by law enforcement agencies, impact on the foreign & regional direct investments and related issues. Inputs from the participants, particularly during the interactive sessions with the senior most functionaries of the Government would be used to formulate strategies that would fuel the growth of the industry. Security Seminar On ‘An Update Of The Terrorist Threats’

Organised by APSA Singapore Chapter, the security seminar on ‘An Update of the Terrorist Threats’ by Brigadier-General (Retired) Malcolm H. MacKenzie-Orr was successfully held at Hotel Excelsior Singapore on 25 July 2002. Brigadier-General MacKenzie-Orr was previously the Head of the Australian National Agency responsible for the Counter-Terrorism and Protective Security. He later served as a consultant to the Federal Airports Corporation, a number of States and Federal Police Forces and related agencies in Australia and overseas. He was also a member of the International Association of Bomb Technicians and Investigators since 1977.

This eventful Security Seminar attracted security professionals and managers not only from Singapore but also from the neighbouring countries. APSA President, Dato’ Haji Rahmat Ismail was among the participants. Dato’ Rahmat later joined Brigadier-General MacKenzie-Orr, Mr Joseph Tang, APSA Singapore Chapter President, and Mr GB Singh, APSA India Chapter President, for dinner at Singa Inn.


Visit To APSA Korea Chapter And Security World Expo 2002 Korea By APSA Singapore Chapter

Security World Expo 2002 was held at World Trade Centre (COEX), Seoul, Korea from 15 May to 18 May 2002. In conjunction with the road show to promote the 9th APSA Conference Singapore, APSA Singapore Chapter had organised an eventful cum steadfast Trade Mission to South Korea on 15 May 2002.

Led by team leader, Mr Wilson Lim and President, Mr Joseph Tang, the team visited Security World Expo 2002 at the World Trade Center, Samseong, Seoul. On 16 May 2002, the team visited APSA South Korea Headquarters and was warmly welcomed by the President, Mr Lee Chong Ho, who later introduced his Vice Presidents and Associate Managers to the visiting team.

The 1st World Security Development Top Forum


The 1st World Security Development Top Forum was successfully held in Shanghai, China from 20 April to 24 April 2002. The forum was supported by China Security Association (APSA China Chapter) and aimed to upgrade the China security services to international advanced level as well as to enhance global co-operation and competition.

It provided delegates with the opportunity to learn from the successful experience of the security and protection job of Shanghai APEC as well as of the international security and prevention operation patterns.

Over one hundred representatives from China’s Ministry of Public Security, Public Security colleges, four associations of the Ministry of Public Security Department, international security services enterprises etc participated in this forum.
